Were you ever that kid, who would sit and watch their parents get ready for a fancy night out?
It might have been a work function, a wedding, a ball, a date night, or just some event where they would dress up, glam up and you would see them in a way that amazed you.
They would have their best clothes on, freshly ironed or dry cleaned. Shoes polished, makeup on and the smell of the perfume or cologne that was only worn on the special occasions.
They would say good night and walk out of the door, only you’d swear they were floating.
And as you watched them leave, you told yourself that one day, you would be that glamorous. That enchanting. And live that kind of experience for yourself.
You’ve probably done it since. Went through the same routine. And you couldn’t help but remember how it felt when you were that kid, even if you did it over and over. And how special, fresh and exciting it felt and feels.

That's where the Hotham Valley steps in - lose yourself in that feeling and step aboard our Restaurant Train.
The evening is descending onto Dwellingup and the train is parked at Dwellingup Station, being readied for your experience. Gleaming under the depot lights, your crew are getting ready, your locomotive is warming up, and the train - made up of some of the most historic Western Australian passenger carriages in service, our 1919 Vintage Dining Car and our 1884 Club Car - is ready for you to board.
You are now our guest. You don’t need to worry about anything except enjoying yourself. Mingle with your fellow dinner companions as you take a seat in the Dining Car and prepare for the journey that's about to begin - meet your crew and order yourself a drink to settle in. Before you know it the locomotive horn will sound and we slowly pull away from the station and start towards Etmilyn.
There is no cardboard or plastic to be found anywhere here - silver cutlery, polished glassware and gleaming crockery are on the table.
This is a set menu five course meal, cooked for you by a professional chef in our dining car galley on a traditional wood fired stove, and your crew are always available to deliver another drink from our well equipped bar.
The jarrah forest slips by outside, softly floodlit from the train - and don't forget you can make your way to the classic carriage end platform and take in the fresh forest air of the evening.
Before too long you will arrive at Etmilyn where you will see the locomotive slip past on its way to the other end of the train to start our return to Dwellingup. But you may not notice. There is no restaurant around that can compare to this kind of experience. Good food, good wine, excellent company and the opportunity to lose yourself, just for a time, in this magical experience of yesteryear. There is no pressure, no phone calls, no emails, no TV in the background - just the sound of conversation, laughter and enjoying life, family and friends set to the rumble of the wheels over the rails.
You may as well have travelled back in time.
And then, just like that, the lights of Dwellingup Station come back into view, the final tables are cleared and we roll to a stop - the finale of an unmissable experience you’ve just enjoyed.
You may have started as 40 strangers, but we can promise you’ll have made new friends by the time we pull up. Take the time to savour, to enjoy, and to appreciate your companions. Your friends and family. Both old and new.
This is a glimpse of life of times past. Things moved not slowly, but leisurely. Where the time was taken to live life as an experience, not something to be blasted through. Where the fancy clothes and good jewellery were to be worn, enjoyed - not just kept in a cupboard hidden away for “one day”.

-Children that are 15 Years old and below are $77 Per Child.
-Seating in the dining car is in tables of 4, therefore please be aware that bookings of 2 will be seated with other bookings of 2.

-The Restaurant Train menu is a set menu and we are not able to make alterations to this menu. We regret that due to galley space limitations in our heritage dining car, we are unable to provide special meal requests on our Restaurant Train.
-Bar service is available - both cash and EFTPOS facilities are available.
